Sharing the News

We understand how scary sharing the news of your pregnancy decision can be, but it’s important to remember that your partner will be impacted. Try being as open as you can, and be sure to discuss your “why” for considering abortion.

Timing Does Matter

Choose a time when your partner is most relaxed and off work to make space for him to react to your decision. This small step will greatly impact how your partner responds and help the conversation feel less intimidating.

Consider Your Partner’s Input

As much as you may be convinced about your pregnancy decision, it’s important to listen to your partner. Do your best to listen to his questions and concerns about your options. Your partner may have input and advice that you haven’t thought of yet.

Your Current Relationship

It’s important to assess your current relationship with your partner before sharing the news of your pregnancy decision. Ask yourself:

  • Is your partner supportive when it comes to your pregnancy?
  • Did he demonstrate that he wants to be involved in the process?
  • What are his thoughts about abortion?
  • Do I feel safe to share the news?

If your partner is committed to you, do your best to reach a mutual decision. Even though it’s not legally required to share your pregnancy decision with your partner, it’s best to do so if you plan on staying together or want to maintain a healthy relationship generally.

Your Safety is a Priority

We want to stress that you are NOT obligated to share the news of both your pregnancy and your pregnancy decision if you do not feel safe to do so. Talk through your pregnancy and your options confidentially and safely at our center.

We’re here to help you confirm your pregnancy details and determine what options you have. We can give you more information on abortion and your other options if desired.
